Review probably by our own PepoteRouge:
This is a one-off commercial experiment by Muddy Waters and the Chess Records label. While Waters and Chess were revered by the artists who made up the British Invasion, by the time of the Summer of Love they had been all but forgotten by their (African-)American audience. In an attempt to reclaim their territory, Chess (and every other "black" label) jumped on the psychedelic bandwagon, by re-recording previous hit songs. The entire effort reeks of extreme commercialism. But somehow the end-result bridges the otherwise unclaimed gap between early psychedelic rock and the early smooth psychedelic soul that had grasped the young audience of the day. It is loud. It is filthy. It is dissonant. It rocks, it wails, it growls. It is unapologetic, unstructured, chaotic, powerful. This is the headbanging blues record no one asked for. As the most psychedelic blues record ever made, it is worthy of recognition as one of the most daring/absurd experiments in musical history, that completely failed in its attempt to capture the accessible spirit of popular psychedelic music, and in doing so became a one of a kind record that would influence artists for decades. And it is damn good.
